Undersecretary Rodrigo Bravo of the Strategic Planning of Buenos Aires City met with Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia Tuesday (November 29, 2011) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Philippine Ambassador to Argentina Rey Carandang said t when he learned that the governor was coming over to Buenos Aires, he immediately included a scheduled visit to Centro Metropolitano de Diseno (CMD).
“Cebu is our hub for creative industries. When I found out that the governor is coming for this trade mission, (I said) she must visit Buenos Aires because it is the design capital,” Carandang said.
Bravo accompanied Gov. Garcia, Cebu Provincial Board Members Peter John Calderon and Wilfredo Caminero and some of the Cebu business delegates around CMD.
The center assists local companies and experts in the creative profession to improve and become more competitive in their designs and innovations. It also serves as a showroom and exhibition area for anything that concerns design–from art, music, furniture, publishing, visual design and fashion, among others.
Carandang said the governor’s visit was very timely because they are in the process of revitalizing Philippines’ relations with Argentina.
For her part, Gov. Garcia said the visit is something that Cebu can learn from.
CMD Operations Director Gaston Marando expressed hope to visit Cebu next year or on 2014 and work together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organize a trade mission as well.
Gov. Garcia was very open to the idea and invited them to visit Cebu earlier or in March 2012 when Cebu will host a design summit with participants coming from different countries in Asia.
The governor added she would be very happy to arrange a program for the Argentine delegation.
